About Sarah

Sarah has been practicing law in the area of fine art for more than seventeen years. She is currently located in Los Angeles, California, after practicing in Portland, Oregon for several years. Sarah’s practice focuses on advising artists, art-related businesses, arts organizations and administrative bodies in all matters related to the creation, sale and management of artwork. She represents clients at all stages of their creative and business development, with a special emphasis on public art issues. In addition to frequent speaking engagements, she often contributes to artist trade publications and legal journals on current art-related issues and has a book forthcoming on the subject of contracts for artists.

Bar Memberships & Education
During the 2011-2012 academic year, Sarah is a visiting jurist at UCLA’s School of Law. She is working on an article addressing the nexus between conceptual art and copyright.
Currently, Sarah is an active member of the California Bar. She is also licensed to practice law in New York, the District of Columbia, Oregon and Washington.
Sarah earned her law degree at the University of Oregon and has an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Illinois. She also studied in France at the Université Paul Valery in Montpellier and is fluent in French.
